In any type of processing equipment, including for the food and beverage industry, in oil and gas or in chemical plants and facilities, corrosion resistance is critical. Stainless steel has long been the material of choice, offering high strength, reliability as well as good stability even when exposed to very high or very low processing temperatures.
Some types of stainless steel can even be used in cryogenic processes. These processes expose the steel to extreme temperatures which make most alloys and alternative materials impossible to use.
In some types of maritime construction projects, the superalloys, such as Inconel, are selected due to their very high corrosion resistance and strength. However, stainless steel weld studs offer a durable, reliable and long-lasting options that are lower cost than Inconel and can be used in many areas of the construction where direct exposure to salt spray and water is limited.
Stainless steel continues to be the alloy of choice in both standard as well as unique applications. Various grades and types of stainless steel can be selected to meet the specific needs of each project.
