Most buildings, particularly older buildings, will require an exterminator at some point. However, leaving it until the infestation becomes worse will drive up the price and could potentially be a health and safety hazard too. Look out for these signs which will tell you when you need to call a pest control specialist such as Chet’s Pest:
1. Dead Bugs
Real estate website Batzner recommends home buyers to look out for dead bugs specifically on window ledges and in basements. A few dead bugs are not unusual, but if there are multiple bodies of the same bug, then it is a sign of an infestation.
Another easily identifiable sign of an infestation is droppings left behind, usually in isolated places such as inside closets. You may also see egg cases or shedded skin that give away a bug infestation.
3. Nests and Webs
A good way to spot pests is to look for signs that they are making themselves at home. Excessive amounts of spider webs are one sign. You can also look out for shredded paper that could be a sign of rodents making nests.
4. Unusual Smell
You may not realize it, but pests do give off a distinct smell. Mice give off an odor of urine, for example, while rats smell of ammonia. If you have been noticing a strange or unpleasant smell, it could be an indication that it is time to call an exterminator. Anywhere that smells of garbage or of dampness could also be a place where pests congregate. Stagnant water or garbage that has not been properly disposed of can draw pests towards a building.
If you notice any of these red flags, be sure to call a local pest control service immediately. And you will want to be especially on the lookout in hidden spaces such as inside closets and behind furniture.
