All About Cookies In Atlanta

In the United States, Americans intake more than two billion cookies per year. This averages out to 300 cookies per year, per person. Cookies can be made through a variety of preparation methods including molded, drop, rolled, refrigerated, pressed and bar. Cookies in Atlanta are classified mainly by their ingredients. Most cookies are made with chocolate chips, nuts or fruits.

Cookies in Atlanta are loved by kids and adults alike. There are many types of cookies out there to be enjoyed; from chocolate chip to oatmeal raisin to peanut butter. Cookies were created by chance. They were discovered when cooks baked a small bit of cake batter in the oven. They did this as a test to see how the batter would come out before they baked a larger cake. Eventually, these cake bits were known as little cakes, or “koekje” as it is called in Dutch.

The first time cookies were brought to America was by the Dutch, English and Scottish. The cookies that were brought to America were similar to what we know today as Scottish shortbread cookies or English tea cookies.

The story of how chocolate chip cookies came into existence begins in Massachusetts in the 1930’s. There was an innkeeper named Ruth Wakefield, who, according to historians, has been credited with creating chocolate chip cookies. The inn where Ruth was located was called the Toll House Inn. She was making cookies one day when she ran of nuts. She used pieces of baking chocolate instead, and Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies were born.

Sugar cookies came about in the 1700’s. German protestant settlers in Pennsylvania discovered them and they were a huge hit from the start. In fact, in the early part of the 2000’s, the sugar cookie was established in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as being their official cookie.

Not much is known about the history and origin of the snickerdoodle cookie. What is known, however, is that it is often seen around the holidays, especially Christmas. Snickerdoodles are sugar cookies with a twist- they are sprinkled with cinnamon before they are baked.

Peanut butter cookies came to light in the early part of the 1900’s, which is when peanut butter became a popular kitchen staple.
